Issaquah Reporter
Jan. 3, 2012 9:37AM
The Issaquah boys basketball team finished 2011 with a bang on Friday, beating one of Oregon's top teams, Western Albany, 61-55 for the Oregon Les Schwab Holiday Tournament Championship.
The Eagles battled back and forth with the Bulldogs before Ryan Sexton's three-pointer gave Issaquah a five-point lead with 1:15 left to go.
Brian Watson and Nick Price hit a pair of free throws down the stretch to seal the victory over the fifth-ranked 5A team in Oregon.
Sexton led the Eagles with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists. He had four 3-pointers.
Price had 13 and five rebounds and Fletcher Martin had 12 points and eight rebounds.
Issaquah beat GP Vanier (British Columbia), 77-33, in the first round, then defeated host school Summit, Ore., 71-61. The Eagles are 9-1 overall headed into Tuesday's game with Garfield (6-2).
Holiday Tornament Recaps....
Varsity:
The Issaquah Varsity Basketball Team continued their winning ways by claiming the Tournament Championship in Bend Oregon at the Summit High School Holiday Tournament. Victories over Vanier High School (77-33), Summit High School (71-61) and West Albany High School (61-55) secured the championship for Issaquah.
JV:
The JV participated in the Sammamish High School Holiday Tournament where they finished 5th in a very competitive division.
Coach's Recap:
The Issaquah JV Boys finished in 5th place in the Sammamish Holiday Tournament. Although they were defeated in final two games they showed great effort and competed throughout the tournament.
Issaquah defeated Sammamish 68 to 37 in their first game off a great team shooting performance. Their second game they were outplayed by rival high school Skyline 55 to 38. Although they lost by 17 they played evenly the second half and played with poise. In the final game they were defeated by Roosevelt 70 to 53, the score does not show how close the game really was as Roosevelt ran away with it in the closing minutes with some breakaway layups as they created costly turnovers.
Sam Brakken and David Van Halm led all team scorers with an average of 10.6 points per game in the tournament.
Currently the Eagles JV record is 5 wins and 4 losses as they look forwarded to the upcoming game and rematch opportunities against the teams that have beaten us.
C Team
The C Team also participated in the Sammamish High School Holiday Tournament - finishing as Tournament Champions in their division!
Coach's Recap:
Happy new year!! C- Team is now 7-2, after beating Bellevue, Roosevelt, and Monroe too take the Tournament Championship.
Players of Note: The team is really coming together.......
Special recognition goes to: Lucas Woo, who had a nice tournament, Chase Hawkins was a madman on the boards and has been all year. We Got some good leadership from Jacob (pudge) McBride and also Dalton Gardiner, who came off the bench and played his best games of the year!
The enthusiasm from the bench was the key to us winning 2 close games. The boys are really starting to come together, stick together, and they're learning when they play hard and leave it all on the floor good things happen. Our defense is suffocating when we play together and communicate. Great job guys!!
Now that we are back and beginning the second half of our season, it is time to refocus, rededicate and give it all you've got! GO EAGLES!!!
Issaquah High School Boys Basketball Guard Hits For 41

NEW — 11:45 a.m. Dec. 21, 2011
Issaquah High School senior guard Nick Price practically got overlooked by almost all the KingCo Conference Crest Division boys basketball coaches when it came to picking last year’s all-league teams. He did manage to get honorable mention despite leading his division in scoring.
But that was last year. The way he has been hitting lately, Price should have no problem attaining higher honors.
Price scored a season-high 41 points Tuesday as he sparked the Eagles to a 86-78 KingCo 4A victory against host Inglemoor.
Last Friday Price scored 30 points when the Eagles lost to Eastlake. Against Inglemoor, he connected on 16 of 23 shots, including 4 of 8 from the three-point range.
Issaquah teammates Ryan Sexton and Drew Danner chipped in 13 and 12 points respectively. Sexton also had a team-high six rebounds.
The Eagles, 3-1 in league and 6-1 overall, trailed by four points after the first quarter. However, Issaquah outscored Inglemoor 30-21 in the second period to charge ahead for good.
Chris Bryant paced Inglemoor with 22 points.

The Issaquah High School boys basketball team might need to adopt the old Willie Nelson tune “On the Road Again” as its team song. The Eagles, after winning their only home game of the month Dec. 9, finish December on the road.
Issaquah plays at Eastlake High School Dec. 16, at Inglemoor High School Dec. 20 and Dec. 28-30 the Eagles travel to Bend, Ore., for a holiday tournament.
The Eagles have already played four away games this season, and won all of them.

The JV Team scrapped and clawed in a close game, and with 5 seconds to go, Issaquah inbounded the ball from the opposing baseline down by 2 points. As the buzzer went off, Lucas Schiltz bombed in a long 3 pointer to win the game! Way to go Eagles JV!!
The Varsity team handled the Tomahawks with ease, winning 83-48 with a combination of stout defense and shot-making. Nick Price led all scorers with 26, and Ryan Sexton found his range hitting three 3 pointers in the second half to finish with 11 points. Great game Eagles!
